 Alabama Chanin

With a different approach to the contemporary making process, Alabama Chanin is rooted in the process of the Slow Design movement - good, clean, fair. This design process includes custom dying of fabric that is then cut and stenciled by hand, packaged and distributed to local businesses who hand-stitch all of the garmets. To produce one Alabama Chanin garment, it takes roughly eight to ten weeks.

  • All of Alabama Chanin's pieces are entirely sewn by hand, with no machine work at all

  • The seamstresses are hired locally and are paid a living wage

  • Natalie Chanin home grows her own cotton crops for collections

  • Heirloom pieces are made from 100% organic cotton
